The properties of additive manufactured parts depend on several influences (e.g. the powder properties, the process parameters, the build-up strategy, the geometry or the heat accumulation). Directed energy deposition technology offers the possibility to operate numerous metallic alloys (nickel alloys, titanium alloys, steel alloys ) and mix metallic powders to generate sandwich structures or functionally graded materials (FGM). DED also offers the ability to mix metallic powder with ceramic powder to generate metal matrix composites (MMC). This leads to a high number of possible resulting material properties.
As a member of the Process Development TeAM, the student will support the engineers in a project regarding a material database for Additive Manufacturing. The target of the internship is to develop a basis for software which combines all process data measured before and during production as well as the resulting material properties. Will work on both front-end and back-end.
